Papal Triple Tiara

"Hence the Pope is crowned with a triple crown, as king of heaven and of earth and of the lower regions."
 "Hinc Papa triplici corona coronatur tanquam rex coeli, terre et infernoram."


During the Papal Coronation the following words were used.

Accipe thiaram tribus coronis	ornatam, et scias te esse Patrem	Principum et Regum, Rectorem Orbis,
Receive the tiara adorned with	three crowns and know that thou art	Father of Princes and Kings, Ruler
in terra Vicarium Salvatoris Nostri	Jesu Christi, cui est honor et	gloria in sæcula sœculorum.
of the World, Vicar of Our Savior	Jesus Christ on earth, to him be the	honor and glory forever and ever.

Vicar of; Vicarium means substituted, replacing. The Popes claim to be Christ on earth.
